Mormon Missionaries Deliver 2,912 Turkeys to Catholic Charities

 Today (Nov.18th, 2016) – On a crisp Friday morning, just after Denver’s first snow, dozens of Mormon missionaries serving around the Denver area gathered at The Samaritan House and unloaded a truck full of nearly 3,000 turkeys.

The turkeys will be sent to Catholic parishes throughout Colorado and used to serve dinners at The Samaritan House.

Kathy Mathison, from Denver and member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, worked with Mark Hahn, Volunteer and Parish Relations Coordinator at Catholic Charities.

Kathy called Mark asking what help they needed for the upcoming holiday season.  The answer?  They needed 3,000 turkeys by the end of the week.

On Monday a request was sent to The Church of Jesus Christ’s humanitarian headquarters in Salt Lake City and by Wednesday a truck with 2,912 turkeys was on its way to Catholic Charities.

“This really was a prayer answered.” Said Hahn.  “It’s a way we can reach back to our brothers and sisters and share dignity and compassion.”

Elder and Sister missionaries from the Church unloaded more than half the turkeys before The Samaritan House ran out of room to contain them all.  The remaining turkeys were delivered to the Catholic Charities’ storehouse in Aurora.

“We are happy to serve the community.  It’s awesome to see faiths come together to do something good.” Said missionary, Sister Hudson.

When asked if he minded shuffling turkeys out in the cold, another missionary, Elder Christensen said “It’s always good to come together for a good cause.”

“Thank you for this.  Thank you for allowing this to happen.  We are all working for God.” Hahn said to a group of volunteers.
